Host Family Program

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be a host family?

Host families provide a safe, welcoming place for a Battlelion player to live during the summer season. This includes a bed, access to a bathroom, and a supportive home environment while the player trains and competes

How long is the hosting commitment?

Hosting typically runs for the duration of the summer season. Exact dates vary each year and will be clearly communicated before placement.

What is provided by the host family?

Host families provide housing, basic utilities, and a welcoming space. Families typically include the player in regular household routines and meals.

What expenses are host families responsible for?

Players receive a weekly food stipend, to cover their meals but host families often provide meals when the player is home, similar to having another family member. Players handle their own personal expenses and are responsible for their own transportation unless otherwise arranged.

What is a typical player’s schedule like?

Players have busy schedules with training sessions, games, team events, and recovery time. Many are out of the house for large portions of the day and evenings.

What are the players like?

Battlelion players are disciplined, respectful, and motivated. They are selected not only for the athletic ability, but also because they are well rounded, kind and thoughtful individuals. They are focused on soccer, team responsibility, and personal growth. Many help around the house and appreciate being included in family life.

Do I need to know soccer to host?

No. Soccer knowledge is not required. A supportive, welcoming home is what matters most.

What kind of space do I need?

A private bedroom is preferred when possible, but shared rooms are sometimes acceptable depending on the situation. All housing arrangements are discussed and approved in advance.

Can we host more than one player?

Yes. Some families choose to host more than one player if space allows. This can be discussed during the placement process.

What support does Tallahassee Soccer Club provide to host families?

Tallahassee Soccer Club provides clear expectations, ongoing communication, and support throughout the season. Prior to their arrival, we will connect players with their host family through a virtual meeting coordinated by the coaching staff or board member. We are always available to help address questions or concerns.

What happens if there’s a problem or concern?

If any issues arise, host families should contact the TSC staff immediately. Our priority is the well-being of both the player and the host family.

Are host families expected to transport players?

Transportation expectations are communicated ahead of time. Players are responsible for their own transportation and will often coordinate with teammates to get to and from team events.

What is the hardest part of hosting?

Most host families say the hardest part is saying goodbye at the end of the season.

Why do families choose to host again?

Many families form lasting relationships with players and become part of the larger Battalion community. Hosting often becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their summer.
